Antique Japanese Kodansu Lacquer Table Cabinet – Meiji Period Style – Birds & Flowers – 16”

Beautiful antique Japanese kodansu / miniature table cabinet, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.

This substantial cabinet measures approximately 16” high × 12” wide × 5” deep and weighs approximately 5 lbs.

The dark lacquered wooden cabinet is extensively decorated with traditional Japanese bird, flower, foliage and branch motifs in gold, brown and reddish tones. Particularly attractive details include the bird decoration on the central drawer, floral decoration throughout, decorative metal hardware and colorful applied/inlaid ornaments on the drawer fronts.

The cabinet has an unusually elaborate interior arrangement with multiple drawers and two hinged side doors, providing numerous small storage compartments. The large lower drawer features a decorative fan-shaped floral panel.

Some drawer pulls appear to have been replaced. Key operates the right-door mechanism, although the door does not securely lock; left-door lock is damaged/nonfunctional. The cabinet has not been professionally authenticated or precisely dated, so it is being offered as an antique Japanese kodansu, likely late 19th/early 20th century, rather than with a guaranteed Meiji-period attribution.
