Beautiful antique Japanese Sumida Gawa pottery vase, attributed to Ban-ni, dating to the late Meiji or early Taishō period.
This striking vase features a dark textured pottery body with a thick flowing blue, white, and green drip glaze around the upper portion. Two charming three-dimensional child figures are applied to the sides among raised foliage details. The unusual blue color palette makes this a particularly attractive example of Sumida Gawa ware.
The vase measures approximately 5.25 inches tall and about 4.25 inches wide at its widest point.
Condition:
Very nice antique condition with age-related wear, glaze irregularities, and minor surface wear consistent with age and handmade pottery. No obvious major cracks or repairs are visible in the photos. Because this piece has delicate applied relief details, please review all images carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.
A wonderful addition to a collection of Japanese Meiji pottery, Sumida Gawa ware, Asian antiques, or unusual figural ceramics.
