Beautiful large antique Japanese cloisonné enamel vase featuring elaborate shield-shaped panels decorated with a ho-o phoenix, dragon, butterfly, flowers, and scrolling foliage.

The vase has a striking cobalt-blue ground with vibrant red, turquoise, cream, green, pink, and goldstone-style enamel accents. The upper shoulder is decorated with a large floral medallion surrounded by scrolling motifs, while the body features shield-form reserves with finely detailed mythological and nature-inspired designs. Additional geometric borders and a broad flared rim complete the dramatic Meiji-era appearance.
